I remember the summer that I got baptized. I was 15. There were two kids in my hall that were "dating"(they sat together at meetings and rented movies to watch with other families from the hall - if you call that dating) It was such a huge scandal. Everyone was up in arms about these kids being too young, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into, the were too immature to be making such an important decision that will effect the rest of thier lives blah, blah blah. The very same people were congratulating me for being so mature, how proud the were of me for making such an important decision that will effect the rest of my life. I was younger than the kids who didn't know how "serious" "dating" was.

Nine year old baptized
by EmptyInside inthis weekend at the circuit assembly, (i stayed home, thank goodness), i heard a nine year -old girl was baptized.
and she seems a bit mature for her age, but hardly mature enough,in my opinion, to make such a choice on her own.
it seems to be a trend in our circuit right now.

Dear Torn In Two Son,
Its kind of like Wile E Cyote chasing after Roadrunner, then he looks down. The moment you realize that everything that you put your heart into is all false, its like the ground has been removed from under your feet. You're in freefall. You panic, your head starts spinning, the "what ifs" start rushing in and you start blindly grabbing at anything. The best thing to do is to sit yourself down and tell your head to "shut up". Forget about the Bible, forget about religion and athism. There will be time for that later. I guess all I'm trying to say is - I remember the moment that my whole philosophy on life vanished in an instant and I wanted a new one NOW. These things take time. But on the bright side there is time - there is no Armageddon.

Free load of Watchtower books (tons!), must pick up
by drew sagan ini've been thinking about getting rid of these books for a long time.
i have bound volumes starting with 1950s up through the early 2000's (not complete, but probably about 35-40 volumes).
i also have about 50-70+ books, including some from the 1950's (let god be true & others).

What's the point of all those presents?
by penny2 inyes, i know i was brought up as a jw so my view is probably distorted.
but why as an adult, would you want to receive gifts that you neither need nor want from people who cant really afford to give them?.
i love xmas from the point of view of spending a whole day eating, talking and a little drinking with loved ones.

Really, Penny2, I hear ya! There seems to be some people in my circle that I love exchanging gifts with (long time friends who share common interests) and those that I HATE receiving gifts from and who are really a pain in the @$$ to buy for (in-laws). They are just thrilled with themselves for picking out presents that we are supposed to be even more thrilled about. And its always something that I hate. But everyone loves buying presents for my little boy!

As A Witness, Were You Intrigued By Prophecy?
by minimus ini knew some jws that lived for examining so -called bible prophecy per watchtower interpretation.
everytime they thought a "new point" was being brought out in a watchtower, they would begin their speculations and discuss their views with like minded theorists.. personally, i never got into bible prophecy, especially after realizing how the watchtower has changed their opinions over the years.. did you really get into prophecy or were you more into other aspects of jwism?.

ziddina mentioned the inability to keep the Kings of the North and South straight - My personal favorite was Daniel's image. One of the shins is Rome, and they moved up the Anglo-American from the feet to the other shin. The feet are now "Politically divided, no dominant world power". I was so agrivated when they did that. They just slipped in an extra world power, hoping nobody would notice that it didn't even fit into the picture! Nobody ever commented on it either time we studdied it. WHY?

No, when I was about 10, we studied the Revelation book. I thought it was going to be as exciting as its title implied. When we got to the parts about some stupid convention, or some dumb guy saying something - being the fulfillment of prophecy, I was done.

I just read chapter 4 of Combatting Cult Mind Control and...
by doublelife inwow.
it's strange because even though i decided in sept that this is a false religion, it's still a little overwhelming to read this chapter.
if cult members have two identities, then where is my other identity?

Judging from your screen name, I think you already know the answer!

Circuit assembly tid bit
by Iwonder17 inanother way of saying this would be...stop thinking and listen to us.
this is something that i am having a really tough time with and have spoken to the elders about several times.
it would seem to make sense that i would be able to get reasonable answers to some questions, and if not they could at least be honest and say "i don't know".

"Stop letting lingering doubts concern you"
Yeah, I remember hearing things like that, too. Its funny because comments like that really made me think! - What would I be doubting? There are enough people who doubt the teachings to mention it on the CA? Why not address these "doubts" instead of telling people to ignore them? That sounds fishy, and this is the truth. Nothing can't be explained by the truth!
Kind of like when your friend asks if you can see the slight mark on his clothing, that you would have never seen or paid no mind, then suddenly, after its pointed out, its ALL you can see.

Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?
by DubR inhiya guys and gals.
im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!
-

Christmas as explained by the WT is not very acurate. Modern Christmas celebrations evolved from various cultures over several centuries. The WT just chose the most unflattering elements to spin their conspiracy theory of how the "world" hates Jesus.

What most of you are saying is the Yearbook is the "E! True Hollywood Stories" of Watchtower-folk.
